Mindful Eating is a new 8-week program designed to support the continued practice of mindfulness in daily life. Since we nourish ourselves with food and beverages several times a day, mindful eating provides a ready pathway for infusing our lives with “the magic of mindfulness”.

Beyond being a very practical application of mindfulness, it can be an especially powerful one as well. Eating is a biological need. To this we add our own personal and cultural histories. For many of us these factors combine to create a relationship to food and our bodies that is complex and sometimes difficult.

As we practice eating with full attention to the experiences of body, mind and emotions in the light of non-judgmental awareness, we can begin to develop a healthier relationship to ourselves, resulting in a natural desire to eat well.

Whether you suffer from a medical condition that requires a restricted diet, struggle with an eating disorder, battle with stress, or simply want to deepen your relationship to yourself and enjoy life more, mindful eating offers a compassionate approach to greater health and happiness through the practice of self-awareness.

EACH EVENING SESSION IN THE 8-WEEK SERIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Gentle Qigong movement
  • Mindful sitting meditation
  • Guided mindful eating exercises
  • Group discussions

LOCATION: El Camino Hospital - Room N at the Park Pavillion building, 2400 Grant Road(see bottom of linked map)

FEE: FEE: $250 ($200 if you are repeating the class) + $20 materials fee

NOTE: Prerequisite is completion of one 8-week MBSR course, 5-day mindfulness meditation retreat or equivalent. Participants will need to bring their own food/beverages and utensils to class for mindful eating.

The Original Body Scan: 32 Parts of the Body Meditation
Discovering Freedom within the Body

Saturday, August 10, 2024 to Friday, August 16, 2024

Teachers: Mary Grace Orr, MA; Bob Stahl, PhD; Christiane Wolf, PhD, MD; Marcy Reynolds (Qigong)

This Online retreat is suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators. We will work primarily with the first of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness – mindfulness of the body. The “32 Parts of the Body” meditation has rarely been taught in the West; you will be introduced to it from an Insight perspective of the true nature and wonders of the body. This practice has also been used for healing illness and most importantly to help eradicate the erroneous view of self. Various methods will be taught to strengthen mindfulness of the body and to explore the mind/body connection.

We will follow the usual format of an Insight Meditation (Vipassana) retreat, with periods of sitting and walking meditation, as well as qigong sessions for further exploration of mindfulness of the body. Each day there will be a talk and systematic meditation instructions that are embedded in lovingkindness. These teachings and practices will emphasize quieting the mind, opening the heart, and developing clarity, wisdom, and compassion; and foster the depth of practice.

This retreat is appropriate for the general public, health professionals, and mindfulness teachers or in training.

* Please note: This retreat is accepted as a part of the requirements of MBSR teacher trainings at both Brown University Mindfulness Center and UCSD (University of California San Diego) as well as for the MMTCP (Mindful Meditation Teacher Certification Program) by SoundsTrue.

This retreat will be held online via InsightLA  Register
